Cambodia

2009-114-Angkor-129

Every year hundreds of thousands of tourists visit Angkor, the remains of what was once the capital of the ancient Khmer Empire. Few Unesco World Heritage sites deserve their status more, even if the splendour can sometimes be lost amongst the crowds. While it is natural for Angkor to be the centrepiece of any visit to Cambodia, we would urge a much wider exploration of this fascinating country. From characterful riverside towns, to white sand beaches, Cambodia has so much to offer visitors. It is ranked joint sixth in our 2015 ethical travel guide to South East Asia.
